Serendipitously in time for International Women’s Day, ISWA is proud to share an updated Gender Equality Plan (GEP); designed to integrate gender equality into all facets of the organisation’s activities, projects, and partnerships. Aligned with international standards, the GEP focuses on several key areas:
-
Awareness and Training: Implement initiatives to raise awareness about gender issues and provide training to promote a culture of equality within the organization.
-
Data Collection and Monitoring: Establishing mechanisms to collect and analyze gender-disaggregated data, enabling progress monitoring and identifying areas needing improvement.
-
Inclusive Decision-Making: Ensuring that women are represented in leadership roles and decision-making processes, fostering diverse perspectives and inclusive policies.
-
Work-Life Balance Support: Promoting policies that support work-life balance, such as flexible working arrangements, to accommodate diverse needs and responsibilities.
By embedding these strategies into its organisational framework, ISWA aims to create a more equitable and inclusive environment, setting a standard for the global waste management sector.
ISWA’s Women of Waste (WoW!) Task Force plays a crucial role in advancing these goals by highlighting the contributions of women in the field and advocating for gender-responsive policies. Through research, capacity-building initiatives, and networking opportunities, WoW seeks to empower women working in waste management, particularly in regions where gender disparities are more pronounced. The task force also works to ensure that gender perspectives are considered in discussions on circular economy, sustainability, and climate action. In celebration of International Women’s Day, ISWA and WoW look to #AccelerateAction to emphasise the need for continued efforts to break barriers, promote leadership opportunities, and create a more inclusive and diverse sector going forward.
