Collection and Transportation Technology

The Working Group on Collection and Transportation Technology (WGCTT) addresses the storage, collection, transfer and transport of solid waste.  The group is looking to the future with the increased sustainability of the propulsion of operational fleets and the use of data and ICT to optimize route efficiency of collection.

A Civil Engineer by training, Ian has spent over 20 years working in waste management, and during this time he has worked for both public and private organisations across the south-east of England.  These roles have included being responsible for the design and delivery of waste-related infrastructure projects, typically on closed landfills, Civic Amenity Sites and Waste Transfer Stations.  In other roles he has been responsible for managing local authority recycling and waste disposal arrangements, eventually becoming the leader of local authority waste disposal services.  More recently, Ian has further broadened his experience by entering the field of local authority waste collections, and has now led the waste services teams of a number of local authorities in London and the south-east of England.  Ian is a member of the UK’s Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), and was one of the first people to be awarded ISWA’s “International Waste Manager” certification.

A Mechanical Engineering graduate by qualification, he has been working in the field of Waste Management since 1996 in India. Complying with government norms, he has executed sizable projects across the nation and abroad. He has worked in all segments of Waste Management, including Collection & Transportation, Secondary Transportation, Tertiary Transportation, Processing & Disposal, Operations & Management, Landfill Management, Material Recovery Facility, Recycling, and more. He spent approximately two years in Lagos, Nigeria, managing about 10,000TPD of waste, and also worked in Kinshasa/Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He has visited various countries to attend conferences and collaborate with suitable technology providers. In 2019, he became a member of the premium waste management institute ISWA, which was a proud moment for him. Currently, he holds the positions of Co-Founder, COO, and Director at Zero Waste Circular Solutions Pvt Ltd. in New Delhi, India. His focus is on promoting the concept of Human Activity and Human Living as Zero Waste, utilizing technologies such as AI, ML, IoT, and others. His main aim is to save the environment (air, water, and soil) for future generations by recognizing the smallest environmental contributions of individuals through a digital platform. As the Vice Chairman of the CTWCG, he aims to assist Chairman Ian by engaging with members across the globe, in order to provide better, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable waste management solutions, particularly in the Collection and Transportation segment.
