SUMMARY:INC-5 side-event: Facilitating Global Circularity of Plastic Feedstock with Standardized\, Verified and Trusted Trade Procedures
DESCRIPTION:Click here for more information about INC5\n \n Click here to read the white paper from ORA on this topic\n \n \n \n \n \n Register here for the side event\n \n Read ISWA's key messages for INC5\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n We are pleased to be announcing that ISWA and Ocean Recovery Alliance will be hosting a side event “Facilitating Global Circularity of Plastic Feedstock with Standardized\, Verified and Trusted Trade Procedures.”  with the Korean Ministry of Environment\, and their “Rethinking Plastic Life” side events. Participation is on a first-come basis\, with room capacity of 50 people. It will include a series of short keynote talks\, as well as a panel discussion and Q&A.\nDate: November 25thTime: 14:00 – 15:30Venue: BEXCO\, 55 APEC-ro\, Haeundae-gu\, Busan\, Republic of KoreaLocation: Room 324\nAs the UN member states enter the final stages of negotiating an agreement to reduce plastic pollution with the UN Plastic Treaty\, creating circular economies for increased recycling will be critical in bringing about long-term positive impact. With the existing Basel Convention Framework already in place\, global and regional efforts built upon well-defined and standardized principles can help to ensure that the trade in legitimate feedstock for recycling and circular economies is not unnecessarily restricted. Alignment between the UN Plastic Treaty and the existing Basel Convention will be important in facilitating global circular economies\, and the subsequent expansion of recycling’s role in reducing plastic pollution.\nThe UN Plastic Treaty offers a unique and significant opportunity for enhancing a coordinated and transparent trade regime for plastic feedstock and circular post-use materials\, ensuring the environmentally sound management of plastic feedstock along the way. This framework will be a significant enabling factor in developing the necessary capacities and investments in feedstock recovery and recycling technologies.\nThis session will feature speakers from civil society\, industry and member state to discuss how the simplification of the movement of legitimate material as feedstock can support the global circular economy for plastic via both the new UN Plastic Treaty and the existing Basel Convention Framework.
