With more than half of global methane emissions being caused by human activities mainly in three sectors waste (20 %)\, fossil fuels (35 %) and agriculture (40 %) the GMP calls to globally reduce methane emissions in these areas by 30 % in 2030 compared to 2020. The paper describes the background of the Pledge\, some of the global organizations and initiatives involved and uses the example of Germany to discuss the policy and measures relevant for a methane reduction in the waste sector.
