Webinar | Beating Plastic Pollution – ISWA’s contribution to the Plastic Treaty

The world is facing what UNEP calls a triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution – and sound waste management is at the center of it. The sound management of plastic waste is a global challenge with far reaching environmental, economic and social implications. The world is currently negotiating a mutually agreed instrument to tackle this issue. It needs tremendous effort and discussions from various sectors including the waste and resource management sector.

Join our interactive webinar to explore the critical collaboration needed between “upstream producers” and “downstream waste managers” to transition to a more circular economy. This session will delve into the often-overlooked link between waste management and climate change, highlighting how poor waste management contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. We will discuss the inextricable connection between effective waste management and climate action, and how the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) advocates for integrating waste and resource management into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) at the UNFCCC COP process. Additionally, we will examine the role of ISWA in the plastics treaty negotiations and how these efforts can drive global commitments to reducing plastic waste and its climate impact.
