Attend the First International Conference on Medical Waste Management in Russia

On 19 March 2019, Moscow will host its first international event on medical waste management. The speakers and attendees include representatives of authorities responsible for medical waste treatment, heads of state programs and leading experts, including ISWA Working Group on Healthcare Waste member, Sandra Eglite who will present at the event.

68 regions of Russia and CIS and 46 expert speakers will take part in the event.

 
This will be an open professional discussion about the present and future of the medical waste treatment sector. In particular, the conference will look into:

  • international and Russian advanced technologies and equipment for collection, neutralisation, reuse and recycling of waste of healthcare organisations and pharmaceutical companies;
  • implementation of complex waste management systems in healthcare organisations and pharmaceutical companies;

 

The conference will also cover:

  • legal aspects and prospects in environmental and sanitary legislation in medical waste and waste from pharmaceutical activities;
  • a unified medical waste system classification, harmonisation of sanitary classification and the classification of the degree of hazard to the environment;
  • standards of education about medical and pharmaceutical waste, new methods of drafting standards, regulation and reporting on medical waste;
  • licensing in healthcare waste management, strengthening control and supervision;
  • inclusion of all types and volumes of medical waste in territorial waste management schemes, as well as responsibility of all participants of the scheme;
  • challenges in professional personnel training in medical waste management stakeholders and experts who supervise compliance with sanitary and environmental requirements.

About ISWA Working Group on Healthcare Waste

The ISWA Working Group on Healthcare waste (WGHCW), one of the ten Working Groups, advocates for the integrated provision of infrastructure for the safe management of healthcare waste worldwide.  Since 2015, the ISWA WGHCW is an officially recognized Non-State Actor partner of the World Health Organization, governed by the Framework of Engagement with Non-State Actors. 
 
Currently, the group is lead by Chair, Dr. Anne Woolridge of the United Kingdom, and Vice-Chair Mrs. Beatrice Giordani of the Republic of San Marino.  Mrs. Sandra Eglite is an ISWA WGHCW member and a regional expert in the area of Healthcare Wastes with over 20 years of practical experience.
