Connecting and Developing Waste Managers in the ISWA Network

25 May 2018 -

The first training workshop: “How to Establish a Proper System of Waste Collection and Treatment: Common Problems and Successful Ways to Resolve Them” organised by ISWA Austria and ISWA BiH (BASWA) under the Twinning Programme (TP) between ISWA National Members (NM) took place in Bijeljina, April 19, 2018 with the financial support of the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency of the Republic of Srpska, ISWA, ISWA Austria and BASWA. There was a great spirit of collaboration and this will be the first of a continuing series of training events together. For more information about regional Twinning Projects please contact the RDN SEMEM Representative and ISWA Board Member, Dr. Alexei Autodorei.

The five-day specialist programme for the ISWA Study Tour for Collection, Sorting and Recycling came back to Vienna this year, 22 - 27th April 2018. The training focusses on integrated collection and resource recovery in municipalities. Highlights included the memorable Paper Museum and recycling plant at Hamburger Pitten and the glass recycling facility in Vetropak Pöchlarn in particular.  This is the second successful Study Tour CSR lead by Michael Merstallinger of TB Hauer – thank you to everyone for a great week!

Congratulations also to our first 22 international graduates of the Spring School for Designing Solutions for Solid Waste Management using a method and tools for low and middle-income countries created and lead by Simonetta Tunesi with Jeremy Gorelick on the 21 - 25th May in Bologna; Italy. Thank you to Instituto Carlo Cattaneo for organising the week-long thought provoking training – you can find more on the modular and long-term method here.
