International Women's Day webinar

Join us in celebrating international women’s day with the Women of Waste (WOW!) Task Force

8 March 2022

14:00 – 15:00 CET

Online

March 8th 2022 is International Women’s Day! Join us to celebrate the women working around the world, 7 days of the week, to safely retrieve and restore value from waste and keep pollution out of our urban and natural spaces.

There are positive changes in the world of waste management for women; slowly but surely, new policies, and opportunities are being implemented by local and global organisations to support women’s working situation, so they are safer and experience more agency in the workplace.

Our short programme highlights emerging best practice and projects by leading development organisations and includes the current WOW! Global Survey II tracking women’s ambitions and challenges at work.

If you are woman working in the sector, or you are a manager with women in your team – join our celebration as we look to the way forward.

With speakers from ISWA, USAID, UNEP, Grid-Arendal, etc.

Organisers

Women make a strong contribution to the solid waste management sector and circular economy, both from the home front and at work as engineers, collectors, recyclers. There are women pioneers, activists, researchers, policymakers, as well as high-level managers and ministers of government – women are out there, but just not very visible.

Furthermore, women still face very real challenges. The range of barriers to women’s full participation is broad: from a lack of well-fitting safety equipment, to persistent bias in legislation, culture and gender roles, to harassment and even physical assault at dumpsites.
Women of Waste wants to change that.

Women of Waste was created by women to advocate for and spotlight women’s work and achievements. WOW! explores the link between gender and sustainable waste management and resource recovery systems to improve waste management overall, by empowering women in the sector.

Led by a technically and geographically diverse group of women experts, WOW! activities are based on scientific evidence and best practice solutions.
