ISWA Study Tour Biowaste Collection and Recycling
This four-day Study Tour will give municipal solid waste managers and decision-makers an overview of current best-practices in separate collection and recycling of organic waste in record setting Northern Italian cities: Milan and Verona.
You will learn from accompanied technical site visits and workshops by senior international experts from leading organisations such as ISWA, CIC, ECN and Ecomondo.
Site Visits include:
1. Separate collection of food-waste from households, markets and commercial activities in a metropolitan area of Milan, currently the best performing city worldwide in diverting food waste from disposal towards recycling
2. Separate collection of food-waste from households and commercial activities in a district area with small municipalities and own composting facility
3. Separate collection of food-waste from households and commercial activities in a touristic centre with bring schemes in the city of Verona
4. Visit of a 30’000 tpa composting facility producing compost with QAS
5. Visit of Europe’s largest AD and composting facility (600’000 tpa) producing biomethane injected into a natural gas pipeline
6. Visit of Italy’s first AD and composting facility (450’000 tpa) producing biomethane, recovering C02 and injecting excess-heating into a district heating system
7. Learning by doing: witness how QAS analysis are carried out on biowaste
