9 Apr 2020 -

We thought it would be nice for our new team member to introduce himself and therefore he has written a welcome letter:

Dear ISWA and new Waste Colleagues,

My name is Alan, I'm 28 and am originally from Mexico, specifically from the Northwest of Mexico where many John Wayne western movies were shot among the stunning cacti, snakes, horses, beautiful beaches, rich seas and mountains.

I studied Environmental Engineering in my BSc in Mexico (ITESCA) with an specialization in waste management and minimization. I have a MSc in Environmental Science majoring in Environmental Policy in the Netherlands (Wageningen University).

I have about 4 years of combined professional experience in environmental management. Firstly, as an engineer implementing wastewater treatment, emissions control and waste management, mostly as a consultant but also shortly in the automotive industry. Then I moved to a position as a sustainability technical advisor for a Dutch agricultural company (tropical agriculture in Latin America and Africa). I also did some in-house consultancy involving business processes and organizational architecture.

I will be joining ISWA as technical coordinator where I look forward to supporting ISWA's Working Groups and STC.

I hope to achieve positive results with ISWA that could contribute as much as possible to the sustainable development goals that waste management entails. I am looking forward to understanding, as much as I can, the challenges and opportunities of the waste management sector and to utilize that understanding into successful projects with ISWA members and external partners that can increase the capacity of developing countries to manage waste sustainable and setting up cutting-edge technology/innovative approaches in developed countries.

I love the arts, nature, history, politics, philanthropy, cooking, dancing, animals traveling and music, but above all I have a passion for knowledge. I'm excited to see what IWSA has in store for me.

Kind Regards,
