Commemorating Earth Day

Today, we come together to celebrate our planet, renew our commitment to protecting the environment, and address the pressing issues that threaten our planet’s health and well-being.

This year, the theme for Earth Day 2023 is “Restore Our Earth,” which focuses on repairing the damage we have caused to the planet and creating a sustainable future for generations to come. As we look back on the past year, we have witnessed the impact of climate change, from devastating wildfires to catastrophic floods and droughts. It is clear that urgent action is needed to address this crisis.

ISWA, through it’s Working Groups and Task Forces, is committed to playing a vital role in protecting the environment by addressing waste management issues. Our organization aims to promote sustainable waste management practices and technologies, support the development of integrated waste management systems, and raise public awareness about the importance of reducing waste generation and promoting a circular economy. ISWA is also committed to working with policymakers and stakeholders to develop effective waste management policies and regulations that prioritize the protection of the environment.

To that end, ISWA is involved in a number of initiatives aimed at addressing environmental challenges related to waste management, including the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on plastic pollution. This committee was established to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution and addresses issues such as plastic waste generation, management, and disposal. ISWA is proud to be a part of this committee and to contribute our expertise and experience to help develop solutions to these pressing environmental issues. With President Carlos Silva Filho as a member of the Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, we believe that through our collaboration and commitment to the cause, we can make significant collective progress towards protecting the environment and creating a healthier planet for future generations.
