Recap: ISWA at COP27, 2022
ISWA joined the 27th edition of UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27), held from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The COP27 summit brings together parties to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Managing Director Marc Tijhuis shares his experience in a blog titled “COP27 waste(d)?“, written for Waste Management World.
In the run up to COP27, ISWA released a revised Declaration on Climate Change as a contribution to the programme.
Highlighting the importance of the considerable cost-effective solutions that the waste and resource management sector can provide towards mitigating greenhouse gases and fighting climate change, this Declaration is endorsed by several ISWA National Members, and reinforces ISWA’s stance as being a proactive leader in the sector, towards positive, global change.

Recap: ISWA at COP26, 2021
The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) took place in Glasgow on 1 – 12 November 2021. ISWA was present in Glasgow representing the waste and resource management sector.
During an Official Side-Event hosted in partnership with UN-Habitat, Engineering X – an international collaboration founded by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering and Lloyd’s Register Foundation, the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), WasteAid, Emory University and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), a panel of speakers shared their expertise and knowledge on the impact of open burning on climate change and global health.
