EU Green Week 2021 | Zero Pollution for healthier people and planet

Jun 3, 2021 | Communication and Social Issues, Governance & Legal Issues, ISWA news

Join ISWA during the EU Green Week 2021 to engage with all stakeholders and interested citizens on how we can work together towards a zero pollution and toxic-free environment.

Pollution affects everybody – through the air we breathe, the water we drink or the land we grow our food on. It is the largest environmental cause of multiple mental and physical diseases, and of premature deaths, especially among children, people with certain medical conditions and the elderly. But pollution does not affect everybody equally. People who live in more deprived areas very often live close to contaminated sites.

Odour pollution is often dismissed as a mere nuisance and can be underregulated. Odour can be difficult to measure and has some subjective characteristics, but the impact on persons is significant and depends on real-life conditions.

The Distributed Network for Odour Sensing, Empowerment and Sustainability (D-NOSES) project received funding from the European’s Union Horizon 2020 Science with & for Society Call (SwafS) under grant agreement No. 789315.

D-NOSES answers the need for a reliable way to measure odour impact.

It is a coalition of international partners collaborating across disciplines promoting citizen science as a way of engaging quadruplex-helix stakeholders in co-creating balanced approaches to odour issues. This initiative was born from the lack of a unified proper response to odour issues, and the need to fill in this perceived regulatory gap since odours are the second most common complaint after noise.

Don’t miss the D-Noses interactive virtual booth, come and say hello. You will be able to ask questions, download documents, check out video clips, and live chat with us.
