 Stadtreinigung Hamburg is responsible for the disposal and recycling of household waste in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Since 1994, Stadtreinigung Hamburg, a public law company with approximately 4,100 employees, has performed services as prescribed by state law (City Cleaning Act). This structure creates the framework as a public law disposal company and, at the same time, ensures that Stadtreinigung Hamburg has the flexibility of a modern service company. Stadtreinigung Hamburg is owned by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Its primary tasks are the following:

• Cleanliness of the city
• Winter services
• Research and Development
• Education in Waste Management
