Crisis Communication in Waste Management

The waste management industry must be prepared for a wide range of potential crises and changes. This not only means pandemics, but also extreme weather, dramatic and sudden policy shifts (e.g. China import ban), but also infrastructural developments. Waste management organisations will have systems and protocols to effectively navigate such crises, but what is often lacking is the necessary communications to ensure positive public engagement and understanding.

Therefore, ISWA’s Working Group on Communications and Social Issues aims to highlight some best practices, techniques and guidance to support the industry in difficult times and times of rapid change/development. What makes people perceptive to communications in such times? How can the waste industry positively communicate changes and upheaval when it comes to waste management? How can you get local communities on-side?

ISWA’s Working Group hopes to address these topics and more in this upcoming webinar on 22 June.
