Redesigning the future of e-mobility through new, sustainable & innovative solutions
Having something radically more sustainable needs imagination and ALMA is creating the future of mobility through innovative, and sustainable hybrid material solutions. ALMA will decrease the environmental impacts of electric vehicles by reducing the weight of the structure, saving materials and energy, thereby reducing CO2 emissions.
Reduce, re-use, recycle. ALMA is transforming the automotive sector from a linear to circular model considering recyclability early in the design phase and concocting creative end-of-life solutions at an affordable cost.
Advanced Light Materials for Electric Vehicles
LEVIS, short for Advanced Light materials for sustainable Electrical Vehicles by Integration of eco-design and circular economy Strategies, is a HORIZON 2020 project funded by the European Union under the H2020-LC-GV-2018-2019-2020 Building a low-carbon, climate resilient future: Green Vehicles call.
LEVIS’ aim is to develop lightweight components for electric vehicles using eco-design and circular approaches. Our consortium – built by industrial and research partners from seven countries – envisages to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of producing these components in three real-case demonstrators at a large scale: a suspension arm, a battery box set and a cross car beam.
Supporting the Electric Vehicle REVOLUTION through maximising EV Range and End-of-Life Vehicle Recovery through optimisation of recycled plastics and advanced light materials.
REVOLUTION focusses on overcoming the challenges hindering the use of recycled materials, but more broadly, restricting the widespread adoption of circular economy principles in the automotive industry. Forthcoming ELV directives are expected to recognise the potential for plastics to enable a circular flow of materials in the automotive sector. Implementing minimum post-consumer recyclate (PCR) targets in any new plastic components in vehicles are currently being discussed. These targets will disrupt the automotive industry.
Session Title: Embracing the Future: Digitalization of Light-weight and Sustainable EV Components
Lightweight Aluminium Metal matrix nano-composites and validation In Green vehicles
FLAMINGo will propose a novel industrial manufacturing route for the efficient production of high-performance lightweight Aluminium composite materials thanks to a novel metallurgical and forming combined approach for making automotive parts. The intensification of use of the Aluminum composites will be driven mainly by the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) technology that are forcing automakers to look for innovative ways to lightweight the vehicles. The goals of FLAMINGo will be related to the manufacturing of a strengthened Aluminum Metal Matrix nano-Composites Al-MMnC with elevated properties, in terms of strength and stiffness, compared to current Al alloys used in automotive. FLAMINGo will provide engineering solutions to substitute steel components in BEV automotive parts and achieve a substantial reduction of weight.
The EnlightEVs Summit will be hosted at the Global Automotive Components and Supplier Exhibition.
The cluster also has a booth at the exhibition at which you can find out more about the projects after the event.
