UNEA-6 side event | Decarbonization and Detoxification: Opportunities for Integrated Actions

As highlighted at various events during the recent 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP-28), the sound management of wastes and chemicals, and circular economy approaches throughout the value chains, have a critical role to play in addressing climate change.
This session aims to connect various experts from the pollution and climate fields to:
- Identify opportunities for synergistic actions that have benefits to address both the climate and pollution environmental crises;
- Call for a better recognition and articulation of the pollution-climate link in global environmental governance and policies;
- Call on governments, the private sector and other actors to integrate their efforts to respond to climate change with those to promote sound chemicals and waste management.
