Valorsul launches "Open Innovation 2024" innovation program and competition
Applications now open! Valorsul has teamed up with consultancy Innovation by Kaizen to launch the 2024 innovation awards. Aimed at academia, start-ups and companies in the sector, in this first edition Valorsul intends to invest 150.000 euros in the most innovative
projects.
Valorsul, the company responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in the Lisbon area and the West region, is giving shape to its values of innovation and efficiency, in partnership with the consultancy Innovation by Kaizen, by launching an open innovation program that connects Valorsul to academia, start-ups and companies in the sector. The aim is to promote an accelerator of state-of-the-art projects and technologies to transform Valorsul’s business and boost the Waste Management sector in Portugal. In this first edition, Valorsul intends to invest 150.000 euros in the most innovative solutions.
Under the name “Open Innovation Valorsul 2024“, the program is aimed at academia, start-ups and companies in the sector, both national and international, which will be able to apply for 3 categories:
- Challenge 1 – New digital and AI solutions in waste management
- Challenge 2 – Sorting new generation packaging
- Challenge 3 – Maximizing the potential of incineration slag
This first Valorsul accelerator project comprises a 3-month innovation calendar. Applications start today, June 19, and they are open until August 15 at 24:00. The selection phase will take place until September 13, when the projects that will move on to the pitch phase, which will take place on September 25 and/or 26, will be announced.
The winners will have the opportunity to co-develop pilot projects and test their solutions in Valorsul’s industrial operations, gaining validation and access to valuable business and sustainability knowledge. In addition to the opportunity to develop their solutions in a pilot test with funding from Valorsul, the winners will also receive a prize of 3.000 €.
