This indicator is based on the concept of the small circle approach that advocates for a new adjustment to the material circularity indicator on the recycling rate that
encompasses the total distance covered for transporting the segregated waste for recycling and the actual recycling rate based on reported or estimated data on secondary plastic raw material production.
INPUT
The required data needed for this index include:
Total waste collected in the region
Amount of material covered by recycling
Inland transport distance in km for transporting the material (here plastic waste) inside the region
Export transport distance for transporting the material (plastic waste) to the outside of the region
OUTPUT
It provides a value ranging from 0 to 1, where 1 represents a complete circular economy.
FORMULA
Circularity Indicator= (Material recovered from Recycling / Total waste collected) / (Transport inland distance + Transport export distance / Per unit distance transported)
